Traditional sourdough malt loaf, sweet and sticky that just wants to wrap you in a great big hug.

Like most of us I love my Soreen, but about five years ago I bought a traditional artisan made malt loaf from a stall at the Ely apple fair, I’ve never seen one before or since, but I’ve never forgotten it. So, once I’d mastered the bun I knew this would be my next sweet bake. A little more crust and a firmer bite than commercially produced malt loaves, but still with that soft, yielding centre. All it needs is a little butter, toasted or un-toasted, to bring out its best.

Due to the extra 24 hours production time over a standard sourdough loaf this is appearing as a Friday special, for now…

Ingredients: organic stoneground white wheat flour, organic stoneground wholemeal wheat flour, sultanas, organic white wheat flour, dark muscovado sugar, organic malt extract, black treacle, sea salt, demerara sugar.

Allergens: gluten. Note – rapeseed oil and palm oil are used in the release agent on the baking tin.
